The three stripes come up trumps: adidas S2G 24 Golf Shoe Review

Do you need to break the bank or can you get a great pair of golf shoes at a great price? Join me as I review the latest iteration of the adidas S2G Golf Shoes

Not everyone wants to splash out on the biggest and best golf shoes on the market sometimes golfers just want a comfortable shoe that is practical and offers great value which is where I think the S2G takes most of its glory.

Although the shoe is far from a flagship model for the German sportswear giant, the S2G is a superb golf shoe at a fantastic price. Despite the fact it is $100 cheaper than the adidas Tour360, the shoe is full of quality everywhere you look. The brand’s reputation and quality ooze throughout the shoe which is shown in the materials and craftsmanship of the product and many other of the best adidas golf shoes.

The S2G is available in both a spiked and a spikeless model meaning that the shoe is practical for pretty much every golfer on the market. The shoe also comes in a mesh and a leather offering which once again gives the golfer great choice when it comes to their regular playing conditions. All variants of the S2G are waterproof and they’re amongst some of the best waterproof golf shoes money can buy. For a shoe like this to be so versatile it is great to see.

Initial thoughts

Out of the box, the shoes both looked and felt great. After slipping them on I realised the S2G does run up a little small. I’d say if you were getting a pair ensure you’ve either tried them. Otherwise, if you’re a regular adidas user I think you will have no issue.

After putting the shoe on for the first time I could feel the cushioning straight away, there was plenty of support below and around the ankle which for a shoe like this is key. Having worn plenty of shoes similar to this many brands lack the basic support a golf shoe needs.

The shoes are super lightweight. That is one of the first things I noticed straight out of the box, how light the shoe was on foot. This meant when I eventually got them on the course, walking was a breeze, you honestly forget there was anything on your foot.

For me, the shoe has to feel great but most importantly has to look great too! The design of the S2G hits the brief perfectly, it is sleek and stylish, great for partnering with outfits, and looks great out on the course, which is all you can ask from your golf shoe.

On Course Performance

The S2G’s are available in both spiked and spikeless, I’ve tested the spiked version and they were an absolute treat on the course. The traction you get from the sole is great, even though there are only four spikes it didn’t matter whether I was on a wet tee box or muddy fairways the grip was fantastic across varying terrains. Although I haven’t tested the SL version I’m sure they’ll live up to the same levels as the spiked version

The shoes are also very durable and hold up well even after frequent use, I noticed no real wear problems even after 10-plus rounds in the shoes. However, the white colorway does mark up easily but the leather makes it nice and easy to clean, the only issue I had was the cushioning around the ankle can get muddy and is harder to get the mark out of.

The shoe doesn’t always feel the strongest when you put it on but it surprises you when you get out on the course, the level of support and stability the shoe provides certainly stands out. Underload I expected it to feel a little flimsy but thanks to the Lightstrike midsole you could really power through the swing.

Thanks to the wet 2024 we’ve had here in the UK so far I’ve had a chance to put the shoes through their paces. All I can say is that they’re certainly waterproof. After playing over ten rounds in varying conditions I haven’t had a single issue and the socks have remained dry.

Final Verdict

These shoes are super impressive for the price you pay in today’s market. The S2G won’t blow your socks off if you’re after some of the more premium tech-focused offerings. But if you’re a golfer who wants an everyday trainer that can perform on and off the course I’d certainly give these a try. Although it’s one of the cheaper shoes in both the spiked and spikeless categories I think this will be a favorite pick for many. The design team have got it spot on with the looks and the performance is there to match. This level of quality is something we’ve all got to know and love over the years not only at the top end but across the whole range which is a testament to adidas.
