How We Test Golf Trolleys

We're dedicated to making sure that we at Today's Golfer are clear and transparent on how we test equipment, so you know you can trust the information that you read.

Over the past couple of years, we have tested well over 50 golf trolleys that are currently on the market. Our Digital Editor, Rob Jerram, Equipment Writer, Will Shreeve-Peacock, and I carried out the bulk of testing, with assistance from the rest of the TG team and trusted external testers. Testing of all golf trolleys took place at various venues, including our home golf courses, Centurion Golf Club, The Inspiration Golf Club, Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club, Essendon Country Club, Mannings Heath Golf Club, and many other golf courses.

When testing golf trolleys, there are certain non-negotiables we're looking for, number one being stability and build quality. For a golf trolley to feature among the best, we expect its build quality to be at a premium and the stability to be spot-on.

Another necessary criterion within a golf trolley is usability, which includes functionality and practicality. The best golf trolleys all excel when it comes to usability.

Certain aspects we look at depend on the model or features, including storage, size, accessories, and (with electric models) battery and charging.

Regardless of what we want or look for from a golf trolley, we ensure we put all preferences aside to judge every golf trolley objectively with an open mind. Every model has been tested over a period of time; some are tested longer than others, but each model is thoroughly put through its paces (rotations).

It's difficult to come up with a hierarchy of the best golf trolleys because every golfer has different wants and needs of a golf trolley. However, having tested over 50 models, we've settled on the Motocaddy M7 GPS Remote as the ultimate companion, but we understand that not every golfer is looking for a GPS remote-controlled model.
