Born in Auckland and the son of All Blacks legend Grant Fox and grandson of cricketer Merv Wallace. Three members of the same family competing at an elite level in three different sports – some genes!
Ryan Fox has carved out a stellar professional golf career since turning pro in 2012. While his father made history in rugby, helping New Zealand to World Cup glory in 1987 and contributing to later triumphs as a selector, Ryan has built his own sporting legacy on the golf course.
Fox’s breakout year came in 2016, winning the Tayto Northern Ireland Open and finishing fourth in the Challenge Tour Rankings to graduate to the DP World Tour. That same year, he also proudly represented New Zealand at the Rio Olympic Games.
His first European Tour win came in 2019 at the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth, and he continued to shine on the global stage, making a second Olympic appearance in Tokyo in 2020.
A dominant performance at the 2022 Ras Al Khaimah Classic ended a three-year title drought, and he added a third DP World Tour title that season at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. His consistent form saw him finish second in the 2022 Race to Dubai Rankings.
The New Zealander also had an emotional win at the Home of Golf in the pro-am tournament, where he has previously partnered with close friend Shane Warne. The Australian cricket legend, who passed away aged 52 earlier in 2022, was a regular in the Dunhill field, and Fox paid tribute after lifting the trophy.
“It means a lot,” Fox said. “To be honest, the only person I can really think of at the moment is Warney. Means a lot to this event and great mates, and just a shame he’s not here. I’m going to enjoy this one with the family.”
Fox’s biggest win to date came at the 2023 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, where he edged out Tyrrell Hatton and Aaron Rai to earn his first Rolex Series title. That season’s strong finish secured him dual membership of the PGA TOUR. He further cemented his place among the elite by competing in a third Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
